The Tuesday before Thanksgiving, the study table becomes a dinner table. Sisters and volunteers bring the sides; the ministry brings the turkey; and before anyone eats, we go around the room and say what the year gave us.
This year the answers included a first apartment, a restored driver's license, a daughter's phone call, and — from three different women — the words "this room."
The old life is gone. A new life has begun. Some years you can taste it, and it tastes like sweet-potato casserole. (placeholder)
